Yahoo! Mail is fast losing its customers to Google, not only on the search engine side, but also in the email domain. Search was never Yahoo's USP; even before Google the most popular search site was AltaVista. Yahoo has always been a starting directory, a kind of have-it-all home page, and Yahoo mail was once synonymous with email. Google's ajax powered super-fast Gmail is crushing that image.
Yahoo acquired Zimbra in September last year, which is an open source messaging collaboration suite. A brief demo run of Zimbra tells that it's an excellent product - it's extremely feature-rich, has an user-friendly outlook-ish interface, and is FAST.. thats the key, it is FAST.
It remains to be seen whether all these plus points are retained after it gets integrated and a few flashy ads are splashed here-n-there! I hope it does :)
P.S. I'm a whole-hearted Google-admirer now placed in Yahoo!. My views are not neutral, but they're equally biased :P
